About Bamenda 1 Council

Bamenda 1 Council came into existence following decree No 2007/117 of 24th April 2007. As a sub-divisional Council, our principal  mission is taking development to the grass roots, constructing and maintaining roads, education and medical to market infrastructures  while enhancing a strong, innovative and effective leadership towards the development of Bamenda 1. The Mayor, deputy Mayors and departmental staffs are working hand-in-hand to improve the quality-of-life in the Bamenda 1 neighborhood by developing a vibrant economy, furthering health and education to agricultural development while implementing ground breaking programs.

Municipal Services

Responding to the municipalities concern is a major responsibility of the Council. The Mayor attends to every Bamenda 1 residents worry and assigns staff members to find solutions to the problems and complaints addressed. Council Structure

The Bamenda 1 council is comprised of 31 Councilors, 2 deputy Mayors and the Mayor elected at large with a secretary general and a municipal treasurer appointed by the state. The council conducts its work through departmental staffs that has varied responsibilities.

Bamenda 1 Population and Settlements

As of 2020, Bamenda 1 has a population of over 62,000 (sixty-two thousand) with 60% being youths. Relating to settlement, the Municipality is divided into three groups, being urban, peri-urban and rural settlements.
