BAMENDA 1 COUNCIL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATION

A Marriage Certificate is an official statement that two individuals are married

Marriage cannot be celebrated if the bride is under 15 years old or the groom is under 18 years old, unless dispensed by the President of the Republic on serious grounds. One month before the celebration of the marriage, the civil registration officer must have had before him or her a declaration stating the names, surnames, profession, domicile, age and place of birth of the future spouses (article 53). The civil registration officer immediately proceeds to the publication of the declaration by posting it to the Civil Registration Centre (article 54) and the celebration of marriage must take place in the presence of: the future spouses and the representative of the prospective spouse; legal or customary parents or guardians where consent is required; at least two witnesses with one per spouse (article 69).

  • Photocopy of both spouse National Identity Cards
  • Photocopy of National Identity Cards of Witnesses
  • 4×4 passport size photographs for couple’s with heads joined together and lady at the left

    • Nationality
    • Occupation
    • Domicile

·         Consent of Parents in case of minority

·         Date and place of celebration of the marriage

·         Marital system (join or separate property)

·         Names and surnames of witnesses

  • Marriage Certificate enables Widows or Spinsters to claim bank money and Insurance benefits after the death of the spouse
  • Marriage Certificate also helps to check illegal bigamy or polygamy
  • Marriage Certificate deters men or women from deserting their spouse after marriage
